End of Summer Tips for Your AC

Northern Pines

You may not be ready to hear it. But fall is right around the corner, cooler temps, shorter days, and saying goodbye to our air conditioner until spring. We know it’s sad to say goodbye, but here are some tips you can use to make the goodbye a little easier and keep your AC in good shape as we head into the cooler months. Take Good Care of Your AC

The end of summer doesn’t always mean the end of hot temperatures, especially here on the Plains. Temperatures can remain fairly warm well into September, so it’s important to take good care of your AC now. Let’s get into some of the ways you can take care of your air conditioner as you begin to use it less and less. The closer you follow these tips, the better off you’ll be next spring when you take it back out for heavy use!

1. Clean Around the System

A clean air conditioner is less likely to develop a problem from the moisture we get here during the winter. Make sure all fall leaves and debris are clear within 2 feet of your AC unit on all sides. By the time you’re ready to pull it out next spring, you may already have some issues caused by a season’s worth of debris. Keep it clean and clear to keep it in better shape!

2. Have the System Maintained

Fall is the perfect time to have your HVAC systems maintained. You can have your air conditioner maintained as well as your heating system. If you’re an owner of a ductless mini split or a heat pump, then you’ll need to have maintenance done on the system twice a year, and fall is the perfect time to knock off one of those visits.

Maintenance keeps your air conditioner working longer and more efficiently. It’s also a useful tool in locating any major repair needs that your system might have to get addressed, giving you time to save through the cooler months so it’s ready to tackle the heat again next year.

3. Take Care of Last Minute Repairs

If there’s a repair that needs to be made on your air conditioner, it won’t magically be fixed over the winter. In fact, it’s easy to forget about repair needs during the winter. You might get surprised when you go to turn on your air conditioner next summer, only for it to make a noise and break down because a repair was never made.

4. Replace the Air Filter

The air filter isn’t going to replace itself, and getting a head start on this necessary aspect of owning an air conditioner can be vital. When you pull your system out next year, you’ll be thanking us that you listened to this advice!
